Armenia , although spanning a long history has still yet to be discovered by contemporary travellers that is the jewel that it is. Modern Armenia is the interesting mix of East and West. Hiking in Armenia is very rewarding, nature is exotic and wild , the landscape richly textured and largely unvisited by non-locals. Since there are o marked routes in Armenia and some of the hikes described lead you through wild landscapes without any visible trails. As suggested routes are half or one day hikes and arranged generally from the north to the south of the country.
Day 1
Yerevan – Capital of Armenia.Arrival at Zvartnots (Yerevan) airport, meeting in the airport and check-in in the hotel/guest house
Day 2
Ashtarak- Saghmosavank- AmberdBreakfast. Trip by car to Ashtarak city and its three medieval churches. Trip by car to Saghmosavank monastery and Kharelake (Stone Lake, 3200 м) on the slopes of Aragats mountain
Day 3
Rya Taza-Alaverdi-Sanahin Breakfast. Trip by car to Yezids village Rya Taza and sightseeing of the pagan idols.
Day 4
Achadzuhur- MakaravankBreakfast.Driving to Noyemberyan city and Achadzhur village. Walk to Makaravank church (1,5 hours)
Day 5
Parz Lich- Araguni-Mkhitar Gosh Breakfast. Trip to the Parz Lich (Clear Lake) lake
Day 6
Sevan Penisula- Hairivank-Smbataberd Breakfast. Visiting the monasteries on the Sevan peninsula. Driving to Hairivank monastery and the biggest necropolis of khachcars (tomb stones with engraved crosses on them) in Noraduz
Day 7
Shatin- Karahundi –Tatev MoansteryBreakfast. Walk down the mountain road to the Shatin church (4 hours).
Day 8
Tatev-Goris - Khdzoresk Breakfast. Visiting the Tatev University (13th c.) and the swinging stellae (10th c).
Day 9
Kapan- Vahanavank-Khustup Breakfast. Trip to Kapan city. Walk to Vahanavank church (1 hour).
Day 10
Tanahat- NoravankBreakfast. Trip to Yeghegnadzor city. Visiting Tanahat and Noravank monasteries
Day 11
Khor Virap- Erebuni. Breakfast. Trip by car to Areni church and excursion to the local famous wineries
Day 12
St.Martyrs Hripsime – Saradarapat- Yerevan Breakfast. Trip to the churches of St. Martyrs Hripsime and Gayane (7th c.), St. Echmiadzin Cathedral (303 year), Sardarapat Museum complex
Day 13
Garni- Matenadaran- Breakfast. Trip to the pagan temple Garni (I-III cc.) and Geghard monastery (12th c.).
